Opinion Paragraph
Mike Sisco
By K.L
Mike Sisco was a very strong individual and was just looking to have a casual swim in a public pool. Any residence of Williamson was allowed to swim in this particular swimming zone. However, Mike’s AIDS made people outraged that he was in the public pool. I believe that Mike Sisco should be able to swim in the Williamson town pool because he is not a dangerous threat to society. Mike Sisco should be able to have freedom that every citizen in Williamson has, he should be able to swim the public pool without any problem.
First, Mike Sisco should be able to swim in the pool because AIDS cannot be contracted through swimming pools. For example, health officials have made it clear that you cannot get AIDS unless it is through blood, needles, pregnancy, or sex. The health organization was making sure that they got their message across, and how it is accurate information.
Secondly, I don’t believe that this was the main reason that bothered the people of Williamson, however, they used it. I think it was due to the sexual orientation, he was gay. Although, the first comment they made was about Mike’s sexuality these people did not accept Mike for this. They never had and never would. The different residents of Williamson had their turn talking to the audience with regards to their outlook and opinion Mr. Sisco. Now they had more of an excuse to get rid of this man. In their eyes, he wasn’t worth living. If these people put themselves 9in his situation it would be a whole different story because they would be going through the denial that Mike had gone through.
In conclusion, if any of the citizens of Williamson put themselves in the position of Mike Sisco, they would have a complete different outlook on this situation. Mike shouldn’t have been discriminated for something that wasn’t under his control.
